Spadina Avenue, January 9th

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

First photo walk of the new year and it could be an all day one!

Date: Saturday 9th January 2010
Meet: 10:00am at Queens Quay and Spadina; there’s a Coffee Time on the NW corner
Route: Head north on Spadina Avenue
Lunch: Dim sum at Bright Pearl – Ron tells me it’s haunted!
Afternoon: Continue north on Spadina until we’ve had enough or we run out of light :)
Post-walk bar: The Duke of York

If you can’t make the morning, join us for lunch; if you can’t make it until after lunch, we’ll still be walking in the afternoon! (I’ll share my cell phone number with those who sign up.)

New poll

Friday, December 18th, 2009

I’ve created a new poll (which you should see in the website‘s side bar) asking when is the best time for a photo walk. So far we’ve done Saturday afternoon, Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon, and each time I’ve received requests to reschedule to a more convenient time. I know I can’t please everyone, but this poll will give me an indication of when it’s best to schedule the next one. (Having said that, it’s not like we have much light in the evenings in winter!)

Broken plugin

Friday, December 11th, 2009

I was trying to use WP-o-matic to copy comments from the Toronto Photo Walks Flickr group‘s Discussion board into this blog but it seems to copy items multiple times. I’ve excluded these posts from the auto-tweet feature (after accidentally spamming my Twitter followers with 40+ erroneous tweets – sorry!) but it’s still making a mess of this blog, so I’m turning the WP-o-matic plugin off. Their website says a new version is “coming soon” and I might try it out, but I’m wondering if I still want that functionality.

The Junction, December 13th

Sunday, December 6th, 2009

Thanks for all the suggestions of places to go – looks like we’ve got ideas for a good few months to come!

I’ve just created a Facebook event for the next photo walk:

Where: The Junction (meet at Rebas Cafe & Gallery, 3289 Dundas Street West)
When: Sunday, December 13th, 2pm onwards – we’ll be in the pub when it’s dark :)

I have drafted a route but obviously we can tweak it as the group wants. Google Maps say it’s a 3.4km (2.1 miles), which is the same as the Yorkville photo walk, and that took us about 4 hours!

Who, what, where, why and when?

Saturday, December 5th, 2009

We’re a group of photographers with a wide range of abilities (from accomplished photographers to those just starting out) who get together to take pictures in and around Toronto. There’s no fixed schedule but we aim to meet up at least once a month.

The Toronto Photo Walks group started life as a Facebook group and now it’s also a Flickr group; both were created by and are currently administered by Paul Henman.
