TOPW Exhibition, 2012

Toronto Photo Walks Group Exhibition at Studio 561

Introduction:
This is an exhibition of photographs taken by members of the Toronto Photo Walks group, taken on various photo walks since the group was formed in 2009.

Guidelines:

  1. All photographs must be taken on official TOPW events.
  2. Any eligible TOPW members wishing to participate will be accommodated. Participants must have attended at least three (3) walks in the last twelve (12) month period by the time of the TOPW annual party (November 12th 2011).
  3. The organizers are seeking twenty-four (24) participants. The more that participate, the lower the cost to each TOPW member.
  4. Each participant must contribute fifty dollars ($50) by the November 12th 2011 party to cover the cost of studio space. This cost will be adjusted at a later date should the number of participants exceed the minimum.
  5. When sufficient funds have been received, the studio will be reserved for a two (2) week period.
  6. The target date for the show is well after the New Year holiday, i.e. late January / early February 2012.
  7. Each participant will receive a three foot (3′) wide wall space with a height of three (3′) to five (5′) feet.
  8. Each participant will be responsible for the editing of their own work which will be hung in their space.
  9. For the purpose of uniformity, safety and cost, all prints will be stretch mounted canvas and processed by a single printing company. The cost for the prints (number and size selected by each participant) is each participant’s responsibility.
  10. This will be a show for the TOPW group and will not be openly used as a means of selling prints. We will, however, maintain a contact list so that prospective purchasers can contact the artists directly.
  11. Submissions for display must be presented in digital form on a CD to the organisers for the purpose of producing the prints on the behalf of each participant. Any layouts, sizing and instructions must be presented with the CD. The prints and CD are the property of the participant (i.e. each photographer retains copyright).
  12. Before going to print, the organizers will examine the work presented with the sole purpose of avoiding duplication and notify those members to offer the opportunity to adjust their presentation.
  13. A cash bar will be available on the opening evening.

Notes:

  • This is an opportunity to display your work in a professional manner and can be both a challenge and enjoyable experience.
  • Final printing costs at this time (October 2011) are unknown. The number and time requested to complete the prints is a factor to be negotiated with the printer. Costs may run from approximately twenty-five to eighty dollars ($25-80) each, depending on size. This is not a quote – just a guideline.
  • Once the studio is reserved, a meeting of all participants will be held. This meeting would address the planning of advertising, printing material with the description of the group and participants (contact info) finding volunteers and anything else that needs discussion and planning.

Update (Dec15): I just handed over a cheque to Mari and booked Studio 561 for March 17-31 – it’s getting real!

Update #2: notes from the Question & Answer session are online @ http://torontophotowalks.ca/2012/01/topw-exhibition-qa/

Update (Feb23): Sadly Studio 561 has announced “that Studio 561 is closed due to the death of the owner and curator Aaron Marx”. Unfortunately this means we have to postpone our exhibition until we can find a new gallery and reschedule our show. Hopefully we can do that fairly soon, so keep checking back.

flattr this!
