Brickworks and Todmorden Mills, March 31st and April 1st

Posted on March 27, 2012July 29, 2024 by Paul Henman

Confused by the date? Well, as well as being the next regular Saturday walk, this is also the first of our new regular Sunday walks! The plan is to repeat the Saturday walk the following day, so that people who can’t make our usual biweekly Saturday schedule can also join in.

Those of you who were on the 2010 Worldwide Photo Walk which I led may recognise the route, but there have been changes at the Brickworks and (hopefully) the weather won’t be so wet! 🙂

Date: Saturday 31th March 2012, repeated on Sunday 1st April.

Meet: 10:00am at the NE corner of Castle Frank Road and Bloor, which is right across the street from Castle Frank subway station. [map]

Morning route: Follow Castle Frank Road north, then Elm Ave west briefly before turning north on South Drive. To find the Milkman’s Run trail we’ll go past the entrance to Cragleigh gardens then take a right turn and cut back to the head of the trail. Follow the trail downhill to the Beltline Trail, continue east, following the signs for Moore Park Ravine, all the way to Evergreen Brick Works.

Lunch: There’s the Brickworks’ cafe/restaurant, the farmers’ market (Saturday only) or bring your own!

*Note: some of the kilns have been preserved and opened to the public, so you might want to bring your tripod as it’s quite dark in there. (We’re expected, so we shouldn’t have any hassle about shooting / setting up tripods.)

There’s also a free guided tour of the site starting at 1:30pm that lasts about 30mins

Afternoon: Take Bayview Ave NE to Pottery Road, over the railway then turn in to Todmorden Mills. After the Mills we’ll continue up Pottery Road, south on Broadview, then cut SE on Pretoria Ave, S on Ellerbeck St and end up on the Danforth.

Post-walk: Factory Girl

    Transit info via Jeff:

There is a shuttle service to the Brick Works from the parkette adjacent to (north of) Broadview Subway Station. It leaves every half hour at _:15 and _:45.

To get to Todmorden Mills (Pottery Road west of Broadview Avenue), you can take Buses 8, 62, 87, or 100 north from Broadview Subway Station. Exit the bus at Pottery Road / Mortimer Avenue, and walk down the Pottery Road hill.
