Riverdale, May 20th

Saturday, May 13th, 2017

Even though I planned this walk, hopefully we’ll have good weather for it 🙂

Meet: 10:00 am at the Tim Hortons at Gerrard and Blackburn (547 Gerrard St East) – yes, the same place we met to start the Focus on Gerrard walk.

Morning route: Head north beside Bridgepoint then across the Don and over to Riverdale Farm. How long we have at the farm depends on our pace. From there we’ll go south on Sumach to Spruce, then over to Parliament. [map]

Lunch: Stout Irish Pub, 221 Carlton (confirmed)

Afternoon: I’ve sketched a route zigzagging up to the Bishop & Belcher, just across from Bloor-Yonge station, but we can improvise.

Focus on Gerrard – 6ix Clicks Collective, March 18th

Friday, March 10th, 2017

An offshoot of TOPW is the 6ix Clicks Collective (Andrew Smith, David Williams, Mary Crandall, Jeff Stewart, Sasha Furlani, Harry Halyk) and we currently have 2 exhibits running for the month of March at the Riverdale Gallery. One is part of the citywide Myseum Intersections festival – “Focus on Gerrard” – portraits and words of people from the part of Gerrard known as Little India. We also have a group show of our own work.

This walk will look at Gerrard Street from Broadview to Coxwell.

10:00AM – meet at the Tim Hortons at 547 Gerrard St. East (just west of Broadview).
We will walk east along Gerrard.
Last year, there were 7 new murals painted around Broadview and Gerrard, depicting wonders of the world.

12:00noon – Lunch at the Lahore Tikka House

1:30pm – The Riverdale Gallery, 1326 Gerrard St. East, 3rd floor.
This is where both of our photo shows are hung. From the gallery we will spread out in small groups to photograph “Little India” … Gerrard St from Greenwood to Coxwell … ending up back at the gallery.

TOPW’s 7th anniversary, November 26th

Tuesday, October 18th, 2016

Another year has rolled around for Toronto PhotoWalks – November brings with it the 7th anniversary of the first TOPW walk!

We will be celebrating at Louis Cifer Brew Works on Saturday November 26th, starting at 5pm. We have the upstairs section but they do get very busy so they’ve asked us to arrive promptly as they may have to seat other people once they fill up downstairs.

We are hoping to set up a slideshow, so start picking out your favourite few shots from the past 12 months of photowalks. Instructions on how to send us those images will be added soon.

There’s also talk of a pre-party photowalk; we’ll update with details as they emerge. The important thing is to mark the date in your diary so you can join us!

Portraits & Pot Luck, August 21st

Wednesday, August 10th, 2016

Thanks to Andrew for hosting this!

Time for a “walk” in the shade …

Andrew’s address: 40 Harriet St, Toronto …. 1 block north of Leslie & Gerrard

The plan: Gather at my house/backyard at 11am and for a couple of hours we will take portraits of each other – Yes! —- YOU get to be the models as well as the photographers.
I will have a few set ups in and around my house, plus there are some locations on my street that we can use.
I have light boxes, umbrellas, a few strobes, universal trigger … some stuff.
Bring your off camera flashes, any props or other gear you think appropriate

At 1pm-ish we will sit down for a pot luck lunch.
My backyard is quite large with lots of seating and is 95% shaded – by the trees, by the permanent tarp and the temporary parachute.

After lunch we will sit in the shade and talk a lot …..
