Graffiti Alley Portrait and Minimalist Photo Walk, January 21st

January 19th, 2017

Thanks to Brad for organising/leading this:

Meet: 10:00 AM at Starbucks at 438 Richmond St West

We can work on our portrait and minimalist photography along Graffiti Alley.

The group can take turns being the models for the other to photograph.
Those wishing to bring any lighting equipment and want to drive there is a G P parking lot off Augusta Ave north of Queen St.

I thought to make this more of a challenge when you post the pictures in the Flickr group pool they have to be 1:1 or the square format. This would also make you think and do minimalist photography when taking photos of the Graffiti. Pictures that are not square can still be posted.

If someone wants to maybe we could have someone do video and you could do a Rick Mercer Rant.

After we are there for a few hours or when everyone has enough time to take pictures we will go to a nearby bar for drinks.

Hair of the Dog, January 1st 2017

December 20th, 2016

As is tradition for TOPW, we will kick off the year with the Hair of the Dog walk on January 1st.

Meet: 11am on the beach/boardwalk by Sunnyside Pavillion [map]
There’s usually a huge crowd, so we normally break up into smaller groups in order to find spots from which to shoot.

Rumour has it that Georgette, Michael, Andrew Grieve and Mark Collins are taking part in the 12th annual Toronto Polar Bear Dip and raising money for Habitat for Humanity Greater Toronto Area.

After the dip (about 12:30pm) we’ll head to a bar. (Firkin on the Bay – confirmed)

There’s no walk planned after lunch; we usually sit around and chat for most of the afternoon.

TOPW schedule 2017

December 19th, 2016

We changed last year’s schedule to include Sundays but they weren’t very well attended, so for 2017 we’re going back to the first and third Saturday of each month:

Month 1st 3rd notes
January 01* 21 *We always start the year with the “Hair Of The Dog” walk, and given it’s on a Sunday it will replace the “first Saturday of the month” for January
February 04 18
March 04 18
April 01 15
May 06 20
June 03 17
July 01 15
August 05 19 Our 200th scheduled walk!
September 02 16
October 07 21
November 04 18 TOPW’s 8th anniversary
December 02 16

As always, please let me know if you’d like to plan/lead a scheduled walk, because all help is greatly appreciated.

For 2017, any “off-schedule” walk organised by TOPW regulars are considered “official” walks too, which means everyone can add their shots to the Flickr group. Unfortunately these are usually only shared in the Facebook group and I haven’t found a simple way to share them on the website or Flickr group.

We will still use hashtags for the scheduled walks but rather than trying to find a unique code for each event we’ll just use “TOPW2017rs” for all the regular scheduled walks this year and “TOPW2017os” for the “off-schedule” walks. Please remember to tag your photos before you add them to the TOPW Flickr group – it makes it much easier for our admins to spot & remove photos which don’t belong there.
