Leaderless in the Beaches, January 26th

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2019

We’ve not explored the East End in a while.

Meet at 10:00am on Saturday, January 26th. (The weather forecast looks cold so wrap up; bring spare batteries if you can and keep them warm too!)

We’ll congregate at Remarkable Bean, 2242 Queen St E (at Beech Ave).

Starting at the R.C.Harris Water Treatment Plant – it’s very close to Neville Loop, at the east end of the Queen streetcar route.

I’m sure we’ll wander around there for a while, and then probably head west along the boardwalk before finding somewhere on Queen Street for lunch. Maybe more walking after lunch if people are interested.

Hair of the Dog, January 1st 2019

Sunday, December 23rd, 2018

As is tradition for TOPW (despite last year‘s postponement of the dip) we will kick off the year with the Hair of the Dog walk on January 1st.

Meet: 11am on the beach/boardwalk by Sunnyside Pavillion [map]
There’s usually a huge crowd, so we normally break up into smaller groups in order to find spots from which to shoot.

After the dip (about 12:30pm) we’ll head to a bar. (Firkin on the Bay, 68 Marine Parade Drive – confirmed)

There’s no walk planned after lunch; we usually sit around and chat for most of the afternoon.

Hashtag: “2019TOPWrs”; Toronto Polar Bear Club are also using #daretodip #polarbeardip and #topolarbearclub

Vivian Maier in Hamilton, November 24th

Thursday, November 22nd, 2018

Nuşin has organised a trip to Hamilton:

Meet at 10:30am at Starbucks, 116 King St West, Hamilton. It’s across the street from the Art Gallery of Hamilton, beside the Sheraton Hotel.

Gallery hours are 12 noon to 5 pm, however, a private tour of the AGH with a docent has been confirmed for 11 am exclusively for our group, an hour before the gallery opens to the public. We will be entering the AGH through the Summers Lane entrance and buzz security for access. We have been offered a group rate of $6/person for gallery access and the tour.

Depending on weather and time we take to enjoy the Vivian Maier exhibition, we may be able to have a short walk after visiting the gallery, followed by a late lunch. Otherwise, there is a bistro at the AGH for food and drink.

For gallery info, directions and parking instructions, please visit their website at: https://www.artgalleryofhamilton.com/

Go buses are available from Union Station to Hamilton for anyone who’d rather not drive.

Tour leader – Nuşin Brown: 416-953-2813
UPDATE: Nuşin’s phone is not working, use the phone number 416-428-6631 if you need to contact anyone in the walk.
