Sunset on the Islands, August 10th

Tuesday, August 6th, 2019

It’s been over a year since TOPW last ventured over to the Islands, so Michael has suggested this plan for a sunset walk:

Meet at Tim Hortons (12 Queens Quay West) at 6pm.

Take the ferry or a water taxi to Wards Island. (Ferry is $8.19; water taxi is $10.00 cash one way, I believe, but we can take the ferry back at no charge.)

Grab a bite to eat at Toronto Island BBQ & Beer Co (unconfirmed)

Sunset is at 8.29pm. We will head towards the Centre Island Pier and then west along Lakeshore Ave to the west side of the Island. (West of Captain Mori Beach)

Centre Island, June 17th

Thursday, June 15th, 2017

Ryan Raz is inviting brave photogs to join him on Centre Island on Saturday:

Meet at the bottom of Yonge Street 1pm
Leave to Wards Island by Water Taxi 1:15pm (cost $10 or less per person)

Explore wards Island stopping at rectory cafe for coffee or beer or wine
Walk to and explore centre island by boardwalk
Walk back and explore the other cottage island
Stop at the Island Restaurant/clubhouse for refreshments
Take (free) ferry back around 6pm or we can hail a water taxi

Wear hiking shoes, wellingtons or the real adventurous can get their feet wet.
Take water and snacks
Weak bladders should be aware only Wards Island has services.
More detail when I can gauge interest.

Dragon Boat Race Festival, June 18th

Saturday, June 11th, 2016

Note: Saturday because Jun19 is Father’s Day.

Date: Saturday, June 18th.

Meet: at Jack Layton Ferry Terminal; we’ll catch the 10:15 ferry to Hanlan’s Point, so either buy tickets online or arrive in sufficient time to buy them there. The ferry schedule (expand “summer schedule” section) says the Hanlan’s Point ferry departs at 15 and 45 minutes past the hour.

Note: Adult fare is $7.50 (return); Student/Senior fare is $5.00 (return).

Morning: Ned Hanlan statue; plaque for Babe Ruth’s first professional home run; Gibraltar Point lighthouse; Manitou beach; up to the pier then down to the new maze and the regatta course.

Lunch: Nothing booked but there are lots of food stalls on the island.

Afternoon: There’s usually a large crowd for the Toronto International Dragon Boat Race Festival, so we’ll break into smaller groups. There’s an event map on their site; the competitors’ area is open to the public. There’s also Centreville theme park and Far Enough Farm close by.

Return to mainland: Meet at the fountain at 5pm. Line-up for the ferry back from Centre Island is always long, so (we’ll decide at that time) we can catch the ferry from Ward’s Island or back at Hanlan’s Point.

Post-walk: Firkin On Harbour – confirmed; 5:30pm; separate bills
