Upcoming photo walks

Monday, January 2nd, 2012

Our regular schedule is to go out every other Saturday:

  • Our next scheduled event is the Spring Bird Festival on May 12+13; [details]
  • Sadly TOPW’s first ever group exhibition has been postponed [details]
  • The calendar (in the sidebar) uses Google Calendar, so you can import it into your own organiser!

Suggestions for future locations are here; past walks are here; if you’d like to help organise a walk, find out what’s involved.

Spring Bird Festival, May 12+13

Thursday, May 3rd, 2012

Date: Saturday May 12th, and again on Sunday 13th.

OK, pay attention now – there are multiple options:

1) join (as a participant or help us lead) the Nature Photography Workshop; there are two workshops (9:30am and 2:30pm); each is 1.5 hours long; participants must sign up on the Festival’s registration page. *Note: this is Saturday (May 12) only.

2) “regular” photo walk starting at 10am Saturday, heading through Tommy Thompson Park, down to the lighthouse and back again, ending at a (yet to be determined) pub.

3) the same “regular” photo walk starting at 10am on the Sunday

Whichever option you pick, please note that there are very limited facilities at the park, so (a) bring lunch, and (b) check where the washrooms are and plan accordingly! [map] Note: pets are not permitted.

It’s going to be difficult to describe where the group is if you want to join us later in the day but we’ll try to work something out.

Brickworks and Todmorden Mills, March 31st and April 1st

Tuesday, March 27th, 2012

Confused by the date? Well, as well as being the next regular Saturday walk, this is also the first of our new regular Sunday walks! The plan is to repeat the Saturday walk the following day, so that people who can’t make our usual biweekly Saturday schedule can also join in.

Those of you who were on the 2010 Worldwide Photo Walk which I led may recognise the route, but there have been changes at the Brickworks and (hopefully) the weather won’t be so wet! :)

Date: Saturday 31th March 2012, repeated on Sunday 1st April.

Meet: 10:00am at the NE corner of Castle Frank Road and Bloor, which is right across the street from Castle Frank subway station. [map]

Morning route: Follow Castle Frank Road north, then Elm Ave west briefly before turning north on South Drive. To find the Milkman’s Run trail we’ll go past the entrance to Cragleigh gardens then take a right turn and cut back to the head of the trail. Follow the trail downhill to the Beltline Trail, continue east, following the signs for Moore Park Ravine, all the way to Evergreen Brick Works.

Lunch: There’s the Brickworks’ cafe/restaurant, the farmers’ market (Saturday only) or bring your own!

*Note: some of the kilns have been preserved and opened to the public, so you might want to bring your tripod as it’s quite dark in there. (We’re expected, so we shouldn’t have any hassle about shooting / setting up tripods.)

There’s also a free guided tour of the site starting at 1:30pm that lasts about 30mins

Afternoon: Take Bayview Ave NE to Pottery Road, over the railway then turn in to Todmorden Mills. After the Mills we’ll continue up Pottery Road, south on Broadview, then cut SE on Pretoria Ave, S on Ellerbeck St and end up on the Danforth.

Post-walk: Factory Girl

Hashtag: please use “TOPW:BT”

**If you’re joining us after 10am, call us (Saturday = Paul, 647-388-5356; Sunday = Alfred, 416-301-1710) and I’ll let you know where we are.
