Hamilton Waterfront Trail Walk, August 15th

Posted on August 10, 2015 by Paul Henman

Jerome is leading our August 15th walk in Hamilton.

If you’re passionate about waterfronts and excited by the notion of walking along trails, then this is the walk for you! Come out to see for yourself that Hamilton is more than just a place you pass by on the 403! 😉

Carpooling will be mandatory to get to this walk… I spoke to the TTC but they don’t think they’ll be able to extend the subway this far by the weekend. The good news is you can leave your passport at home! We’ll park at the meet-up spot, and then relocate our cars a short distance after lunch to reduce the walking distance. Parking is free at both locations. The morning and afternoon routes are both closed circuits, so we’ll finish where we start.

Morning Walk Meet: 10:00 AM at Williams Cafe, 47 Discovery Drive, Hamilton, ON L8L 8B4 [map]

The morning route takes us past the yacht club, along the Harbour-West waterfront, through an older west end neighbourhood, then back down to HMCS Haida where we’ll pick up the Waterfront Trail again.

Lunch: Open to whatever you want! There are three choices: Williams (where you can get a beer!), the Waterfront Grill (where you can get a burger and HUGE servings of fries) or sit down at Sarcoa Restaurant & Bar, which is very $pricey$ for a lunch stop, so I recommend the first two options. You can also brown bag it if you like.

Afternoon Walk: 1:30 PM – We’ll reconvene at Williams and relocate our cars to: Bayfront Park, 200 Harbour Front Drive, Hamilton, ON L8L 1C8 [map]

It’s a five-minute drive away and saves us a little time. We’ll follow the Waterfront Trail around Bayfront Park. There are lots of birds along this route, so bring your long lenses. We’ll then cross over the rail yard where there’s lots of train traffic and construction going on, followed by a walk through old north Hamilton, passing by some historic buildings.

Post Walk: Fisher’s Eatery & Sports Pub
554 James Street North
Hamilton, ON L8L 1J5
(905)-526-9622

I told them we’d be there between 4:30 and 5:00.

Walk Leader: Jerome Daly (289-242-7033). If you are lost or want to join us at another time during our walk, call/text so we can let you know where we are.

Remember that, although we usually plan walks to run 10am to about 5pm (depending on light), feel free to come and go whenever it fits with your schedule. [FAQ] [About TOPW]
